4 Commonly Stolen Items for Security Systems Philadelphia Retailers to Protect

Shoplifting is a notoriously difficult issue for any company to prevent. It’s simply impossible for someone to keep an eye on every person who enters a store. Worst of all, it has a serious impact. Shoplifting was responsible for about 38% of the $44 million of inventory shrink experienced by American retailers, while another 34.5% was lost to employee theft. What's even more amazing, though, is what gets stolen. Here are just a few of the most commonly shoplifted items: Meat: Many retailers are being left wondering, where’s the beef? Shockingly, meat has proven to be a favorite amongst shoplifters. The pieces stolen are most often the top-quality cuts, such as filet mignon or lamb chops. Razors: You’ve probably noticed the giant glass cases of razors when wandering through the store, or have at least seen the commercials complaining of how difficult it can be to actually purchase them. However, it would seem...

Are Your Business Security Systems Outdated? 3 Ways to Tell

In the age of smart security, too many businesses are relying on security systems that are literally based on 17th century technology. While an old-fashioned lock and key, fence, or wall can help protect your business in any age, business security solutions have come a long way in a short time. From surveillance cameras to security access control systems, the modern business owner has a lot of options to protect his or her property. One of the most effective business security solutions you can implement is the replacement of any old or faulty security or alarm systems. Using high tech commercial security products can help ensure that your business is secure 24/7. Here's how to know when it's time to upgrade your business security systems. Problems With Your Alarm Systems Of all the alarm activations across the U.S., between 94% and 98% are false. Old alarms or faulty systems can often go off...

Secure Your Facility After a Burglary

No one ever expects it. You think you’re prepared, that you have taken the appropriate precautions to prevent such a thing to happen. Then your business is burgled. Now what? It is a very traumatic experience when a business gets burgled. You feel as though a part of you has been violated. Important documents, electronic files and/or product could be missing that you may never get back. You must think to yourself, how did this happen? What went wrong? Did I set the alarms? Do I have the right security system? These are all questions that should be flowing through your mind after such a traumatic occurrence. These questions need answers. The first issue that should be addressed is to review your security system. The security system you had was supposed to prevent the burglar from breaking in, so what happened? It was probably a conventional alarm system that wasn’t good enough...

Improve Security at Your Construction Site

During a construction project, there are always going to be security threats specific to construction sites that can be difficult to manage. Unprotected sites will have a high risk of theft of uninstalled materials, equipment (such as copper cables), and installed materials, such as copper wire & pipes that can be torn out of walls. You have valuable assets to protect and deadlines to meet, and so security should be top of mind. Unfortunately, theft is becoming more and more common, costing the construction industry more that $2 billion per year in North America. It can happen on projects of all sizes, ranging from enormous construction projects such as airports, office towers, and highways, to smaller housing developments. Organized criminals, individual thieves working alone, and even the workers themselves, all target construction sites. These criminals will steal anything from copper wiring, appliances, and tools, to drywall, lumber, and other building materials. This activity...

Three Reasons Why CCTV is NOT a Total Security Solution

I often get asked by people checking out security systems for their business for first time, “I’m looking for an electronic security system for my business, should I go with a CCTV system purchased from by local electronics retailer or Big Box Store?” The simple answer is “No” and here's why: CCTV cameras and surveillance systems are a good operational management and recording tool, but that’s about it. It's good for ensuring staff are working, correct product is being shipped or received undamaged, and keeping tabs in general on your property. As a security system, CCTV is not the best solution. A security system needs to protect your assets, such as valuable inventory and employees, and notify the Police to stop crimes in progress. "My advice ...

Holiday Tips for Retailers As we approach the holiday season and the busiest time of year for retailers, we need to take into account the security and safety of your retail store. Sonitrol Security is proud to protect the Goodwill Industries of Delaware and Delaware County facilities.
