Arrest Alert: McKinley Avenue Elementary School

On Wednesday August 2, 2018 at 12:58 AM Sonitrol operator Cathy Bomberger received an audio alarm from the gym audio detector and immediately contacted Stafford Township Police.  Cathy spoke with Dispatcher Tim Cunningham and informed him that she had live audio coming from the McKinley Avenue Elementary School and can hear 2 adult male voices coming from the gym area of the school.  While listening to the live audio, Cathy was able to inform the dispatch/call-taker, that she could hear what sounded like basketballs bouncing in the gym. Stafford Township Police Officers Joseph Niccoli, Marc Potter, Chris Smith, Joe Stanziano, Anthony Vincent and Zack Wiatrowski quickly arrived on scene at 1:06 AM where one of the officers retrieved the Sonitrol access key fob from a secure police/fire lockbox.  The officers were able to quickly gain entry into the school.  While performing a sweep and search of the facility, they too heard...

Four Reasons Your Security Should Include Managed Access Control

Looking to improve the security of your business? Perhaps it’s time you bring your property into the 21st Century with the implementation of managed access control. Lock and key has been a way to keep assets secure for thousands of years but rapid changes in technology have greatly improved the way we secure our possessions. Today, we have new ways to secure our assets or locations, including pass codes, magnetic swipe cards, fingerprint recognition and keyless access control.  Managed access control is one of the easiest and most cost-effective ways to improve your security. A typical access control system can range from something simple, such a key fob or a plastic card, to a larger and more sophisticated security solution using fingerprint biometrics or iris scans. Not only can managed access control systems track and restrict who goes where and when, these systems also only allow authorized users to enter your facility or designated areas...

Evaluate Your Business for Security Issues

Commercial security risks can come from a variety of threats. It is imperative you do not make your business a target for crafty criminals. Some aspects of security are self-evident and often small business owners try to address their building security by piecing together off the shelf products. This is not an effective approach to secure your building, assets or employees. It could be highly risky and leave you vulnerable. Security is not just about technology but also how technology is used to protect a location, how it is integrated, where it is implemented, and how it is operated. Some security threats can only be addressed by technology (systems and alarms) and others can be handled by processes or by limit With decades of expertise, we have created a series of questions to ask yourself to help identify the security risks for your business. Answering yes to one or more of these security questions highlights...

    Common Misconceptions About Security

Thousands of small, medium and large businesses are broken into every day, with the result sometimes being catastrophic for the company. Whether opening for the first time, moving locations or simply looking to upgrade, business owners have a lot of aspects to consider. The security of their premises should be high priority on that list. Nearly 9 per cent of small businesses suffered a burglary in 2016, according to Chicago-based insurance agency Insureon. The survey revealed that a business owner could pay up to $8,000 out of their own pocket following a burglary incident - not a small price to pay. Thankfully, there are security measures a business can take to significantly lower that risk, but choosing the right option is essential. Here at Sonitrol Security of Delaware Valley, we’ve created a list of the five most common misconceptions when it comes to conventional security systems. 1 - All security companies use the same technology Most security...

Copper Security Critical as Price Reaches New High

The importance of implementing a security solution to protect your copper assets, such as wiring or tubing, has been a hot topic in recent years. Recent soaring prices have made this absolutely essential for any businesses that have copper on their sites.  This was made more apparent earlier this week when the price of copper jumped to its highest price in three months, up 3.7 per cent on Tuesday (June 5). The in-demand metal reached $3.25 a pound or $7,165 a ton, eclipsing last month’s high of $3.14 per pound.  Copper has been steadily increasing in price since 2016, and criminals now know that this is a lucrative material to target. Copper theft is a growing problem in North America. Whether you have any amount of copper at your construction site, on your compound or warehouse or simply in your vacant building, you’re vulnerable to copper theft. Demand for copper is high, making it an easy...
