Member Spotlight, Greater Northeast Philadelphia Chamber of Commerce Sonitrol Security of Delaware Valley Teresa Pratt is regional sales manager for Sonitrol Security of Delaware Valley. She is fast becoming a familiar face at GNPCC events, and has plunged feet-first into our activities. In addition to her sales ability, she is also a professional wildlife photographer. (Perhaps we can convince her to do a showing for GNPCC members and friends?) She recently agreed to answer five questions from Don Brennan about Sonitrol Security). Why did Sonitrol Security decide to become a member of the GNPCC? I became a member of GNPCC, because even though my sales region consists of Philadelphia County, I decided to concentrate my efforts in the Northeast Philadelphia marketplace. I knew that the Northeast is a unique area with a strong sense of loyalty towards supporting businesses in their own community. GNPCC has given me the opportunity to meet local business...

3 Ways Security Access Control Systems Can Stop Shoplifters Dead in Their Tracks

You can't really own a business without dealing with the possibility of robberies. While the threat of outside burglars is one of the most recognized benefits of security systems, many business owners don't realize how much potential there is for employee theft and shoplifting. Overtime, small interior thefts can amount to substantial losses. So how do you prevent this problem with whole teams of employees and consumers constantly roaming your building? Business security systems are obviously an effective tool against theft, and here are a few reasons why: Video surveillance: Just the presence of surveillance video cameras is usually enough to deter people from attempting to steal. Around 67% of burglaries can actually be avoided by the installation of video cameras, many of which are interior thefts. But for those willing to risk it anyway, it is usually one of the only pieces of evidence that can prove a thief's guilt. Security access...

Three Reasons to Upgrade Your Commercial Security System

There aren't many companies out there that are willing to risk their inventory and finances by ignoring the need for a security system. But is any old alarm enough to actually make a difference? Commercial security systems can come in a number of different forms, spanning everywhere from audio-based intrusion detection systems to surveillance video. But what are the repercussions of having a poor system in place? Here are just a few examples: Delay time: The majority of alarm systems have a built in delay that waits anywhere from 30 seconds to three minutes from when it is triggered before actually contacting the monitoring company. Not to mention that the monitoring company will then need to contact the authorities. That is plenty of time for any burglars to either escape or even grab hold of some inventory. False alarms: Most people would be shocked at how many false alarms are triggered by commercial...

Along with the alarm, the Sonitrol operator could hear movement sounds from within the E Commerce area of the facility. The Sonitrol operator immediately dispatched the New Castle City Police Department to the scene. The Sonitrol operator stayed in constant contact with the emergency dispatch operator and continued to feed valuable REAL-TIME information to the responding officers. New Castle City Police Officer Richard Perillo along with New Castle County Police Officers Richard Shughart, Stefani Cerkez and K-9 Unit assisted in the arrest of one male who was found inside the facility. Protect Your Retail Business this Holiday Season

Holiday Tips for Retailers As we approach the holiday season and the busiest time of year for retailers, we need to take into account the security and safety of your retail store. Sonitrol Security is proud to protect the Goodwill Industries of Delaware and Delaware County facilities. As a retailer, you're probably well aware of how costly and time consuming it is to manage loss prevention. Shrinkage losses are a constant battle and not only hit the bottom line, but indirectly cost retailers time and resources for loss prevention management. Every retail storeowner needs to think seriously about preventing theft from a profit and loss perspective. More importantly you need to provide your employees with a safe...

Track and Restrict Threats With Security Access Control Systems

The fear of theft is one that plagues business owners across any industry. While the most prevalent threat comes from burglars who would attempt to break into a building, one of the less obvious dangers can come from within the company as well. If a business is not prepared to combat these issues, they could end up looking at serious losses over time. The National Retail Security Survey reported that retailers in the United States suffered $44 million in inventory shrinkage in just one year. This statistic is a result of a number of different risks that plague businesses. About 38% of all of this inventory shrink can be attested to shoplifting, while a comparable estimated 34.5% is from employee theft. There are multiple versions of business security systems that offer different services, each with their own advantages. While systems that use surveillance video can reduce burglaries by approximately 67%, there are...

What Makes an Alarm System for Businesses so Important?

For many business owners, one of their biggest fears is the threat of break-ins and burglary. As a precautionary measure, the implementation of an alarm system for businesses can offer substantially more security. However, some systems may not operate as well as they could. The vast majority of commercial security systems have a built in delay after being initially triggered, before contacting the monitoring company. This delay can span anywhere from 30 seconds to three minutes, which can give robbers enough time to either escape or even to steal merchandise before authorities would be able to reach them. Part of the reasoning for these delays is due to the frequency of false alarms that security systems experience. An astounding 94 to 98% of alarm prompts end up being false triggers. Instances of false alarms can not only cause hassle to the owner and the monitoring company, but local authorities are required to...

What’s The Difference Between a Sonitrol Security Verified Alarm and All the Others?

The easiest way for me to highlight the difference between a Sonitrol Security Verified Alarm system and one of the hundreds of conventional burglar alarm systems out there is to walk you through a typical scenario around what happens when an alarm goes off in your business. Let's say you have a conventional alarm installed for your business. It's nothing special but you think you have a system that can adequately protect your business. This is what most likely happens. It's 2:00 am on Friday night and couple of burglars break into your business. It wasn't difficult for them to get in using just a crowbar at the door, or a rock through the window. It's worth noting here that our professional thieves (who represent just 4% of the criminal community - commit 80% of crimes) have successfully done this before and they know they will easily got away with it. Vandals and idiots also do this...
