    Protect Your Place of Worship

Many places of worship have no formal safety and security measures in place. There are inherent safety and security risks to take into account, and for some locations there are greater levels of risk that will need to be properly assessed and managed. Usually, there’s no security system in place, no safety committee, no partnership with first responders, no training and no emergency plans. Your organization does tremendous good for the community you serve. A burglary, an assault, a fire, even a false accusation could seriously threaten your ability to carry out your mission. A good place to start a safety and security program for a place of worship, a church, or a religious & faith-based organization, is to bring together a committee of community volunteers who can build a relationship with first responders by having your local law enforcement, fire department and paramedics do a walk-through of all your facilities, so...

Access Control is Essential Part of Your Total Security Solution

Access control to a site or installation is one of the most essential components of a good quality security system. It determines who enters the area, how the access is controlled, and what technology or equipment is used to make the access happen. An access control system can range from something simple, such a fob access to a larger and more sophisticated security solution using biometrics. The best managed access control systems are integrated with other security devices and are designed to seamlessly support a larger security system, such as; Verified Alarms, CCTV, and 24/7 remote monitoring. Controlled access is most efficient when its introduced as part of a multi-layered defense. Access control can be integrated with other core aspects to create a seamless solution to protect your staff, buildings and assets while helping you save time, reduce administration overheads and react more quickly to required changes. The right...

Three Reasons Why CCTV is NOT a Total Security Solution

I often get asked by people checking out security systems for their business for first time, “I’m looking for an electronic security system for my business, should I go with a CCTV system purchased from by local electronics retailer or Big Box Store?” The simple answer is “No” and here's why: CCTV cameras and surveillance systems are a good operational management and recording tool, but that’s about it. It's good for ensuring staff are working, correct product is being shipped or received undamaged, and keeping tabs in general on your property. As a security system, CCTV is not the best solution. A security system needs to protect your assets, such as valuable inventory and employees, and notify the Police to stop crimes in progress. "My advice ...

Security Tips for Garages and Parking Lots

Since garages and parking lots contain valuable vehicles and personal contents, car owners and their passengers could be potential victims theft and violence. Garages and parking lots are frequently favoured "hunting grounds" for robbers and thieves. In some garages, access to the garage can be controlled or closely monitored. A parking attendant can view the occupants of cars entering and leaving, and a closed circuit television (CCTV) camera may be used to record license numbers and drivers' faces, both major deterrents to many criminals. However, ground-level pedestrian doors, located out of sight of the parking attendant, should be monitored by CCTV to avoid blind spots. The threat to people and property in covered/enclosed parking garages can be even higher than the threat in open lots. Isolated floors and locations often make effective surveillance or monitoring difficult, and criminals can find places to hide more easily. Adequate lighting and the...

3 Ways Security Access Control Systems Can Stop Shoplifters Dead in Their Tracks

You can't really own a business without dealing with the possibility of robberies. While the threat of outside burglars is one of the most recognized benefits of security systems, many business owners don't realize how much potential there is for employee theft and shoplifting. Overtime, small interior thefts can amount to substantial losses. So how do you prevent this problem with whole teams of employees and consumers constantly roaming your building? Business security systems are obviously an effective tool against theft, and here are a few reasons why: Video surveillance: Just the presence of surveillance video cameras is usually enough to deter people from attempting to steal. Around 67% of burglaries can actually be avoided by the installation of video cameras, many of which are interior thefts. But for those willing to risk it anyway, it is usually one of the only pieces of evidence that can prove a thief's guilt. Security access...

Three Reasons to Upgrade Your Commercial Security System

There aren't many companies out there that are willing to risk their inventory and finances by ignoring the need for a security system. But is any old alarm enough to actually make a difference? Commercial security systems can come in a number of different forms, spanning everywhere from audio-based intrusion detection systems to surveillance video. But what are the repercussions of having a poor system in place? Here are just a few examples: Delay time: The majority of alarm systems have a built in delay that waits anywhere from 30 seconds to three minutes from when it is triggered before actually contacting the monitoring company. Not to mention that the monitoring company will then need to contact the authorities. That is plenty of time for any burglars to either escape or even grab hold of some inventory. False alarms: Most people would be shocked at how many false alarms are triggered by commercial...
