Emergency Planning 101 For Your Business
Disaster can strike your business at any time and in any form, whether it be a robbery or a nature-driven event. The best way to protect you and your employees during a crisis is to prepare an emergency plan with detailed steps. Consider these options to include in your business’ emergency plan.
Create a meeting point
Establish a meeting point with your employees at a location inside the company headquarters and one location outside in case an evacuation is required. At the inside location, make sure important materials are stored close-by, including a flashlight, a typed emergency plan with directions, first-aid kit, and a charged phone to call for help.
Establish safe zones within the office
Should a threat to the company enter the building, create designated zones with locked doors to protect your employees. Whether it’s a shooter or a robber, these zones should do a good job of hiding your employees and offering safety measures prescribed in the previous point.
Install an alarm system
A business security system will not only deter would-be thieves from entering your business, it also records threats before, during, and after they occur. Establishing an alarm system will keep your employees safe and protect your assets. If a criminal act occurs, your CCTV camera solution will record the perpetrator. In fact, 83% of burglars claim they check for a security system before attempting to break in.
Install fire protection systems
Even if your business doesn’t handle fire on a daily basis, break room accidents can happen at any point. It’s important to monitor sprinkler systems and pull stations to ensure they’re in working quality. Train your employees on how to use them and show them where the systems are located to keep your business safe.
Delegate tasks to individuals
Many members of your team might freeze during a crisis — to prevent this from happening, delegate certain employees to perform certain tasks. Creating emergency teams will ensure each member of your business knows what they need to do during the time of a crisis, whether it be calling the police, or checking in on members of the company.
The most important thing you can do as an employer is taking preventative measures to guarantee the safety of your employees during a crisis. Train your employees, establish a security plan, and install a business security system.
