Three Reasons to Upgrade Your Commercial Security System
There aren’t many companies out there that are willing to risk their inventory and finances by ignoring the need for a security system. But is any old alarm enough to actually make a difference?
Commercial security systems can come in a number of different forms, spanning everywhere from audio-based intrusion detection systems to surveillance video. But what are the repercussions of having a poor system in place? Here are just a few examples:
- Delay time: The majority of alarm systems have a built in delay that waits anywhere from 30 seconds to three minutes from when it is triggered before actually contacting the monitoring company. Not to mention that the monitoring company will then need to contact the authorities. That is plenty of time for any burglars to either escape or even grab hold of some inventory.
- False alarms: Most people would be shocked at how many false alarms are triggered by commercial security systems. As much as 94% to 98% of alarm activation is actually false.
And because police are required to check out any triggered alarm for a set amount of time, they will likely not be happy driving over to an establishment all the time just to find nothing. The problem that can arise is a “boy who cried wolf” situation. If the police are used to an alarm system for businesses falsely activating all the time, they may not be very inclined to hurry their way over.
- Employee theft: Most surveillance systems focus mainly on exterior threats. But what about the risk of untrustworthy employees? Even though 38% of inventory shrink can be attested to shoplifting, another 34.5% is a result of employee theft. Without extensive surveillance inside a business, there’s no telling what employees could get away with.
No matter what sort of company you’re running, it’s always utterly important to its success to have a reliable commercial security system. Might as well act now before the next break in.
